Opened up during late spring.  We're always a bit apprehensive about what we'll find when we get up there but everything was fine.  No indications of four-legged or two-legged critters visiting over the winter.  Always a concern because we're so remote.

I borrowed a back dump trailer from my neighbour and hauled a couple of loads of gravel to finish off the front of the shed.  Framed it with landscaping ties and started shoveling.  I also thought it was time to finish the shelving in the shed.  It really wasn't that big a job and it was sure nice to get all our outdoor gear and stuff off the floor and organized to a degree.

One of our bigger planned projects during 2013 was to lay a sewer line from the trailer that drained directly into the outhouse pit.  Up till now we had been emptying the grey water and black water tanks into a tote and hauling our sewage into the bush.  A lot of work and pretty unsanitary.  The west end Home Depot in Edmonton had Kubota BX25 diesel tractors with a bucket and backhoe for rent so we rented one for a long weekend and towed it north.

There was a bit of a learning curve to digging a trench but I got the hang of it fairly quick.  After a day and a half I had my 130' long by 3 feet deep tench dug.  Bought the 4" pipe and fittings locally and put together my sewage line.  After piping it into the outhouse pit and hooking it up to the trailer, we filled in the trench and levelled out the dirt on top.  Nice to finally have that job done.

While we were on the roll hauling gravel and spreading it, we also framed sidewalks with landscaping ties and pinned them down.  Bought a couple of loads of pea gravel in Fairview and filled in our sidewalk framing.  Cleaned things up considerably.

Over the years I had accumulated quite a few sets of antlers through hunting and had them stored in boxes in the attic of our garage in Edmonton.  One weekend I hauled them all up to the "Farm" and screwed them on to trees around our firepit.

Finally drew a moose tag for WMU 526 (our zone).  It took a couple of days, but I did connect late in the day on a nice bull in the neighbours pasture.  A nice finish to 2013 for me.

More elk showing up every year.  Lots of black bear cubs as well.
